VOCAL HARMONICS & NADA YOGA
Igor Olivier Ezendam, Dutchborn singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and artist is an acknowledged performer and teacher of vocal harmonics, able to produce an incredible scale of 11 clear overtones in his voice. He has had work exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam and the Académie des Beaux Arts in Paris. Igor offers concerts and workshops teaching vocal harmonics and encouraging people to free their voices. As a voice teacher he has been invited to teach the Yoga of Sound (Nada Yoga) at the Siva Soorya Divine School of Yoga during their Swiss Yoga Teacher program of 2011. The concept of feeling sound is integral to his work, the way that we relate to ourselves, and others is expressed in our voice. The truer our voice the better our communication. By experimenting we can experience how out sounds interact with ourselves, our environment and the group. So we discover the science of communicating, how we use words and sounds to create or destroy relationships with other beings, and how that can be improved and developed. All too often we are not conscious of our words and the effect they have on each other. We may discover that the voice has magical powers: how it can link body and soul; a secret of self expression; an aspect of the dance of the soul; a way to contact the primal foundations of communication and experience the resonance of the personal and the cosmic; to be truly human. Sound penetrates all matter and indeed vibrates eternally throughout the creation. This is not just about creating sound but also discovering the science of listening, to ourselves ,each other, and the subtle cosmic music that plays forever within and without everything. We may also explore how various rhythms and melodies can affect our mind and states of awareness and how we can use music to create environments of peace and higher consciousness. His concerts are musical voyages around the world with a wide variety of styles. Igor accompanies himself with Hang and other forms of percussion, didgeridoo, guitar, shruti box. There is always an interaction with the audience as he is guided by their reactions - no two concerts are the same. His vocal repertoire is not limited to vocal harmonics and it is inspired by soul, shamanic chant, blues, tibetan undertones and sufi mantras, as well as ethnic sounds from Australian Aboriginal, African and Indian traditions. The principal objective of the workshops is, by the practice of overtone singing, to rediscover the space in which creativity flows freely. You are encouraged to learn to trust and love your own voice and be amazed by it. Igor has the ability to encourage you to explore your sound without imposing a structure. He works with people in a sensitive, flexible and interactive way that honours their state of being whilst listening to their wisdom and that of the group. This is a wonderful attribute for a teacher and one that is often lacking. Igor Ezendam has given concerts and workshops in Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Holland, France, Austria, Ireland and the USA, produced several solo albums as well as duets with various artists. He's currently living and teaching in Switzerland. |
